How I came up with my virtual assistant business name
I knew pretty soon that I needed to be creative when it came to my virtual assistant business name. I have always wanted to go international, and let’s face it: Having a name like Marit Verlaat is not really easy for people outside the Netherlands to pronounce.
So, I had to be creative and I had soooo much fun with it. There are already so many virtual assistant business names out there. In this blog, I’m going to tell you exactly how I came up with my name and what to do next.

Before we begin
I want you to take your time coming up with the name for your virtual assistant business. You don’t have to decide within 10 minutes.
Naming your business is important.
You can be as creative as you want to be. The business from the coach who helped me set up my VA business is called Blueberry Dynamic. You wouldn’t think this is an academy for virtual assistants, just by reading the name.
But that’s ok. It stands out, and people will remember it. It’s been 8 years since I’ve hired her, and I didn’t need to look it up, it was still somewhere imprinted in my brain.
Do you want support creating your own virtual assistant business? I have a DIY course, Couch Potato Clarity, a virtual assistant course that will give you the confidence to start accepting clients. Even if you don’t have a portfolio yet!
When you want to use your own name, because you’re lucky enough to have a name that can be pronounced by billions of people, you can definitely do that. You don’t even have to add something to it. Just your name is already powerful enough.
Don’t type your virtual assistant business name into Google to check if it’s still available. There are people in this world who check these kinds of things, and before you know it, your business name is being registered.
But don’t worry, I’m going to give you a site where you can check it without problems.
Exercise virtual assistant names, part 1
So, now the exercise I did to come up with my name.
Grab a notebook or a Google Doc so you can write down every word you love. Words that give you a positive feeling. Do a brainstorm for about 10 - 15 minutes.
After that, go do something else. Leave your notebook in a central place, and make sure you download the Google Docs app on your phone when you use that.
Every time you think of a new word, add it to the list. This can be during a shower, when you’re in bed, when you’re driving, when you’re walking your dog, or when you’re reading a book.
We get so many great insights when we just do something else.
When you think you’re done, go over the list and see if you want to combine words. It doesn’t matter if the words exist in the dictionary. My virtual assistant name is Wanderful Assistant. Wanderful is a combination of Wanderlust and Wonderful.
After you’ve done that, pick your top 5 and put them in order of importance.
Exercise virtual assistant names, part 2
Now we have to check if the 5 virtual assistant business names you chose are still available. Don’t worry if the first, second, or third name is not available. It’s not the end of the world.
The first name I came up with was already taken. I was kind of disappointed, but now I can’t even remember what it was.
We are going to use the Squarespace Domain Checker to check. Why a domain checker, you might ask.
Because I’m a firm believer that you NEED a website as a virtual assistant.
Most businesses nowadays have a website, so when the domain is available, it has a high probability that the business name is also still available.
So, open the Squarespace Domain Checker and type in the first name. Add .com or .org to it because most websites use .com or .org.
As you can see, you can also use an AI tool to generate your business name, but what’s the fun in that?
In the image below, you see that the .com domain is not available, and that’s because I registered it for my virtual assistant name.
In the image below, you can also see that you can use - between the words, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The more - you use, the more it distracts people.
When a business name is already taken, go to the next name on your list. You do not want the same business name as someone else.
Register your virtual assistant business name
After you've found your name, you have to register it. It depends on which country you are what you have to do.
I’ve listed the information from a couple of countries below:
United States
Australia
Canada
Ireland
UK
You can also register your domain name right away. I recommend creating your website with Squarespace because it’s my favorite website platform. You don’t have to register your domain name with Squarespace. You can Google register domain name and find the cheapest option. You don’t have to worry about hosting because that’s being taken care of by Squarespace. The only thing you need to do is register your domain.
